Our ‘Take Heart!’ event at St. John’s Brickstone to launch American Heart Month left us in winning Super Bowl spirits! Dr. Leway Chen (Director of URMC’s Heart Failure and Transplant program) spoke eloquently about the latest disease prevention and treatment options. Harbor House founding members Tom Arcara and Gary Acker shared their own personal stories of survival and resilience following transplant surgeries, now 20 and 25 years later, respectively! A special thank you goes to Michelle Marks-Hook from the American Heart Association-Rochester, who helped make this a winning kick-off before the Big Game! There was plenty of heart- healthy food for thought–including the cupcakes, which were especially curated for this event!
If you missed ‘Take Heart!’ you can see some highlights of the event in Spectrum’s article by Adriana Loh: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/rochester/news/2025/02/02/harbor-house-founders-share-the–heart–truth-during-american-heart-month?cid=share_clip
It May Take a Village to Do Some Things . . .
But, when it comes to winter cleaning miracles at Harbor House, all it takes is a few miraculous volunteers! R.I.T.’s National Society of Black Engineers sent two of them for this project a few Saturdays ago, and they made the house ‘new’ again! Kudos and Thank You Nicolas and Serenity!
